Abstract:
Communicating science to a general audience is challenging, but also increasingly important. I'll discuss some of the lessons I've learned in writing about science for a wide readership, and will try to translate these into some rules for scientists. Writing a good proposal, or giving a good presentation, isn't so very different from explaining science to someone on the street - you need a good story, and the tools to tell it. Just like teaching, the process of translating for the masses can also inspire new scientific insight.
