My research focuses on the evolution history of life on Earth, taking a geological approach. I have been studying where and in what kind of environment the first animal diversification (the Cambrian Explosion; ~540 Ma) occurred by conducting fieldworks in South China. Furthermore, I have worked on the oxygen content through time, a key to the animal evolution, by analyzing chemical states of iron in ancient deep-sea sedimentary rocks.
