The Earth-Life Science Institute (ELSI) at Tokyo Institute of Technology will host NASA scientist, Linda T. Elkins-Tanton and ELSI professor, Yasuhito Sekine as the speakers of the annual public lectures at the 2019 symposium of ELSI. The lectures will take place on Tuesday, 8 January 2019 and will be held in English and Japanese with simultaneous translation.
Is there life beyond the Earth? What can we learn from the metal worlds? These key questions will be the theme of the 2019 public lectures of ELSI. Continuing for the 7th consecutive year, the ELSI public lectures invite scientists around the world who's engaged in cutting-edge scientific research.
Professor Linda T. Elkins-Tanton is the Principal Investigator of the NASA's Psyche mission. Linda will present about the NASA's mission to the metal world, asteroid (16) Psyche. It is the first NASA mission to visit a metal world. This means to build a hypothesis about Psyche and engineering challenges of a space mission.
Professor Yasuhito Sekine is a scientist at ELSI working on the origin and evolution of the atmosphere on planets in the Solar System. He will discuss the recent advances on Solar System explorations.
Both lectures will be provided with simultaneous translations in English to Japanese and Japanese to English. The doors will open at 18:30 and lectures will be delivered from 19:00-20:30 on the Tuesday, 8 January 2019.
